JAMES ASMUS Writer, Comedian, Actor
James Asmus is a long-time writer and performer. Most of his work has been in theater, with works produced in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Seattle, New Orleans, and Portland OR. Award-winning plays include Love Is Dead: A NecRomantic Musical Comedy, Amelia Earhart Jungle Princess, and his latest Hearts Full of Blood(originally produced as Calls to Blood), a drama which met critical and commercial success in its Chicago runs at The Royal George and Victory Gardens theaters. HFoB was selected for both the New York Fringe Festival and its prestigious Encore Series. The festival also awarded James the award for “Outstanding Achievement in Playwrighting.”
In recent years, James has been writing for Marvel Comics including runs on Captain America & Bucky, Generation Hope, and launching a brand new Gambit solo series for the X-Man. Additionally, he’s written comics for Wolverine, Deadpool, Namor, Runaways, and more Marvel Heroes.
As a comedian, James has been a writer/performer/teacher in improv, sketch comedy, and stand-up. He spent three years touring with sketch trio Hey You Millionaires – twice named “Chicago’s Best Sketch Comedy” and once featured on the cover of Fortune Magazine. Asmus has also been a part of award-winning and critically acclaimed improv groups like Baby Wants Candy and the Washington Generals.
