Jonboy Meyers Comic artist, Teen Titans
Artist Jonboy Meyers began drawing stories when he was just 4 years old when his father, a military policeman, would bring him home comic books to read. Jonboy later saw the movie The Black Hole, a movie he credits with beginning his journey as an artist and storyteller.
Developing his own artistic style, Jonboy emulated his art heroes like John Buscema, Michael Golden, Jack Kiry, Joe Madureira, Jason Pearson, J. Scott Campbell, and Arthur Adams – all inspirational to him developing into the artist he is today.
Jonboy would stand for hours in lines at comic-cons waiting to have his art portfolio reviewed in hopes of landing his first job as a comic artist. About those early portfolio reviews, Jonboy said, “I remember waiting in line for 4-6 hours just to have my 10 minutes to get my work critiqued–in hopes of landing my first comics gig. It was a testament of how passionate I am about my art…then getting ripped to shreds during the critique and taking what I learned to get better and better.”
Doing a lot of free independent comics work hoping to get his work noticed, Jonboy finally got his foot in the door working as a marketing Director for MV Creations which did all of the Masters of the Universe comics during the 1990s. At a time when the comic industry was seriously struggling, Jonboy continued setting his sights on becoming a full-time artist despite a shrinking and very uncertain comic book market.
After sending some Spider-Man samples into Marvel Comics editor Joe Quesada and CB Cebulski, it wasn’t long after Jonboy got his big break drawing Spider-Man for Marvel Age.
Jonboy has since worked on titles such as The Inhumans, Teen Titans, Spawn, G.I. Joe, Black Dynamite, Thor, Supergirl, Huntress, She Hulk, Hulk, Spider-Man, Arana, Gen 13, Ninja Scroll, Danger Girl, Justice League of America, and X-Men to name a few. Jonboy has also worked in animation and video gaming on League of Legends, Motor Storm Apocalypse, World of Warcraft.
